Britons are bracing for turbulent weather conditions that may usher in snowfall over the upcoming weekend. Following a prolonged period of warm and dry weather, September has kicked off with unsettled conditions that are predicted to persist in the days ahead. Recent stormy weather brought heavy rain and strong gusts, with wind speeds reaching up to 74mph in the Isle of Wight.

BBC weather forecaster Elizabeth Rizzini highlighted two key aspects of the upcoming weather patterns. Firstly, significant rainfall of 75mm to 100mm is anticipated in parts of northwest England and North Wales, potentially leading to localized flooding. Secondly, a notable temperature drop is expected from the warmth on Friday to cold conditions by Monday, signifying a drastic change in weather.

Projections indicate a low-pressure system over the country on Saturday, with potential snow flurries in southern Scotland and the northeast of England on Sunday. Temperatures are set to plummet, with daytime highs on Friday possibly reaching the mid-20Cs but dropping close to 0C by early Sunday morning.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain from Saturday morning to Sunday morning, covering regions in northern England, Scotland, Wales, and also Northern Ireland. Moreover, there is a possibility of snowfall over the highest mountain peaks by the end of the weekend as cooler air mass moves in from the north.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Tom Crabtree emphasized the expected heavy rainfall and strong winds over the weekend, urging the public to stay updated on weather forecasts for potential disruptions. The evolving situation may prompt additional warnings as conditions progress, particularly in southwest England, western Wales, and parts of the northeast.
