The upcoming year is likely to see an increase in the cost of a TV licence to over £180, delivering another financial hit to numerous households grappling with rising living expenses.
The fee for a TV licence is determined by the Government and typically goes up annually in April, in line with the previous September’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate, which stood at 3.8% this year. Currently priced at £174.50 per year, a 3.8% increase in April would push the cost of a color TV licence slightly above £181.
Although the precise rise is yet to be confirmed by the authorities, it is noted that approximately 300,000 households ceased paying their TV licence fee last year.
