An NHS physician who stars in the BBC series “The Traitors” has advised individuals on how to prepare while awaiting an ambulance. During an appearance on BBC Morning Live, it was disclosed that England alone receives over 30,000 emergency calls for ambulances daily.
Dr. Kasim “Kas” Ahmed, a prominent figure from the show, highlighted the variation in ambulance response times depending on location and the nature of the emergency. He emphasized the unique systems each country has in place to handle emergency calls, categorizing them based on urgency.
Differentiating between the color-based system in Scotland and Wales and the number-based system in England and Northern Ireland, Dr. Kas underscored the importance of understanding the categorization process.
In the interim before medical assistance arrives, Dr. Kas recommended several practical steps. Ensuring a clean and unobstructed space indoors, removing potential hazards, and providing constant reassurance to the patient were among the suggestions.
For easy identification by the ambulance crew, leaving a light on near the entrance with the door ajar was advised. Dr. Kas also stressed the significance of having medications readily accessible, especially for patients with multiple prescriptions, to facilitate efficient care delivery.
Additionally, he advised checking for any medical cards in the individual’s wallet, identifying the location of the nearest defibrillator, and remaining composed when required to administer first aid procedures like CPR.
In situations where CPR is necessary, Dr. Kas reassured viewers that emergency operators would guide them through the process until paramedics arrive, emphasizing the importance of persistence and teamwork in such critical moments.
