US President Donald Trump suggests that the conflict in Iran and neighboring areas may be nearing an end, as he seeks a way to de-escalate the situation. The ongoing war has incurred substantial costs for America and Israel in terms of military resources and maintenance, yet the Iranian regime remains resilient.

Iran’s strategy of imposing financial strain on the coalition and posing a threat to drag the Gulf States into a protracted and costly war seems to have been effective. While Iran’s military capabilities have been weakened, its leadership appears more resolute and vengeful than ever, indicating a prolonged conflict unless they decide to cease missile attacks.

Motjaba Khamenei, succeeding his deceased father Ayatollah Khamenei, holds strong ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Trump’s inconsistent messaging has exposed his lack of strategic depth in initiating the war and handling its consequences.

Despite initial promises of support to opposition forces, Trump’s actions have led to a violent crackdown by the Iranian regime, with no significant aid materializing. The prospect of US intervention for regime change is highly unlikely, leaving protesters vulnerable to reprisals as the conflict lingers.

Trump’s warnings of severe consequences, including military action, if Iran disrupts oil flow through the Strait of Hormuz have not deterred further attacks. Israel’s attempts to induce regime change have also fallen short, highlighting the challenges of achieving their objectives without ground support.

Although Iran’s military capabilities have been significantly hampered, the core goals of the conflict remain unmet. Ongoing attacks on Iranian military sites indicate a prolonged engagement, with little sign of imminent resolution.

As the conflict enters its twelfth day, Trump contemplates an exit strategy from a contentious war. However, the likelihood of a swift conclusion remains slim, with the cycle of hostilities potentially resuming if not decisively resolved.
