Donald Trump announced a significant new peace agreement with Israel regarding Gaza during a recent meeting. This development has sparked optimism for potential progress in achieving peace in the Middle East. The proposed 20-point plan, revealed by the US President and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, awaits approval from Hamas as they claim to have not received a formal copy of the proposal.

Trump hailed the day as a historic one for peace in the region, emphasizing the importance of embracing the opportunity for lasting peace. However, he also issued a warning that if Hamas does not accept the US-Israel plan, full support would be extended to Netanyahu’s forces to eliminate the threat posed by Hamas.

The details of the plan, including the establishment of a temporary governing board, have not been fully disclosed. It is rumored that Trump has positioned himself as the leader of this board, with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair potentially playing a role as well.

As per the proposal, Palestinians in Gaza will not be compelled to leave if they choose to stay, humanitarian aid will be provided, and amnesty will be granted to Hamas fighters, with leaders offered safe passage out of the region. Additionally, the plan demands the immediate release of the remaining 50 Israeli hostages, with only 20 believed to still be alive.

Since October 2023, over 66,000 Palestinians have lost their lives, according to Gaza’s health ministry, following the conflict initiated by Hamas’s attacks that resulted in the death of around 1,200 Israelis and the abduction of 251 individuals.

After the White House discussions, Netanyahu expressed gratitude to Trump, referring to him as Israel’s strongest ally in the White House. Statements from Egypt and the United Arab Emirates leaders indicate their support for the plan, highlighting its potential to pave the way for a lasting and comprehensive peace in the region.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer praised Trump’s leadership in the new peace initiative for Gaza, emphasizing the urgent need to end the conflict, release hostages, and provide essential humanitarian aid to the people in Gaza. Starmer called for all parties to collaborate with the US Administration to finalize the agreement and urged Hamas to accept the plan to end the suffering and achieve a sustainable peace for both Palestinians and Israelis.
