Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, announced on Friday a global recall of over 1.5 million Ram 1500 pickup trucks due to a seat belt issue. The recall affects Ram 1500 vehicles manufactured between 2019 and 2026 that may have a second-row center or driver side seat belt anchor that was not properly attached to the vehicle’s body structure. This issue could compromise the second-row seat belt system’s effectiveness, potentially increasing the risk of injury to occupants. While Stellantis is aware of one injury possibly linked to the recall, there have been no reported fatalities.
The recall impacts 1.27 million vehicles in the United States, 156,000 in Canada, 15,000 in Mexico, and approximately 75,000 outside North America. Stellantis will notify affected vehicle owners to arrange for an inspection at dealerships. During the inspection, dealers will assess the attachment of the second-row center and driver seat belt buckles to the vehicle’s body and ensure proper installation if necessary.
