A village in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region was struck by a Russian missile attack on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of 10 individuals, as confirmed by Ukrainian authorities. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, emphasizing that the assault occurred at a busy intersection in Pechenihy, surrounded by residential buildings, a post office, and stores. Zelenskyy shared images of the destruction caused by the attack, including demolished buildings, burning cars, and emergency responders aiding the injured.
Governor Oleh Syniehubov reported that 17 people sustained injuries in the assault, which damaged 10 private buildings, a café, a post office, a store, and several vehicles in the village. The use of two small Banderol cruise missiles by Russia was indicated by Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office based on initial findings. Local sources revealed that the strike targeted the central part of the village, affecting key establishments like the café, post office, and shops.
In a retaliatory move, Ukraine launched a large-scale drone offensive, deploying 620 drones towards Moscow and its surroundings. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin of Moscow confirmed that Russian forces intercepted and downed 180 drones over the region, leading to emergency response efforts at crash sites. The drones targeted various facilities near Moscow, including a warehouse belonging to the Russian e-commerce company Wildberries, resulting in minor damages.
Furthermore, several Russian-controlled regions, including Crimea, experienced heavy drone attacks from Ukraine. Krymenergo, the major power supplier in Crimea, reported that southern districts faced drone attacks, causing power outages in multiple settlements. In response, Russia issued a warning to Britain for allegedly supplying drones to Ukraine for attacks on Russian territory.
The Russian embassy in London threatened repercussions for Britain’s involvement in the conflict. The embassy’s statement on Telegram highlighted the potential consequences for Britain’s support of Ukraine’s actions. Meanwhile, Britain’s Defence Ministry reiterated its commitment to assisting Ukraine in defending against the Russian invasion, although it did not confirm the use of British drones in the attacks. Britain previously pledged to provide 150,000 drones to Ukraine by the end of 2026 as part of a significant funding package.
