A clinical psychologist has highlighted the subtle indications of autism and ADHD. Stephanie Georgiou, a psychologist and author known for her expert advice on TikTok, recently outlined three less recognized signs that could indicate someone has autism and ADHD.

According to the NHS, individuals with autism may exhibit distinct behaviors, finding it challenging to engage with others or comprehend their thoughts and emotions. While autism is commonly diagnosed in childhood, it can often remain undetected until later stages of life, making diagnosis challenging.

ADHD, as described by the NHS, is a behavioral condition characterized by restlessness, concentration difficulties, and impulsive behaviors. Symptoms typically manifest in early childhood, becoming more prominent in settings like schools.

Stephanie shared a video discussing the subtle indicators she often observes in adults with autism and ADHD. She emphasized the importance of seeking professional assessment for accurate diagnosis. In the video, she noted that individuals might display traits like trouble focusing, impulsivity, a strong memory, and a potential gift or talent in specific areas.

The NHS identifies key signs of autism in adults, including challenges in understanding social norms, intense interests in specific subjects, and meticulous planning tendencies. Symptoms of ADHD can affect focus, energy levels, and impulse control, leading to inattentiveness, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.

Individuals with ADHD and autism might face difficulties in conveying empathy or connecting emotionally, which can be misconstrued as narcissism or selfishness. It is crucial to recognize these nuances and seek professional support for proper evaluation and management.
