Princess Kate donned a famous tiara at the recent state banquet, where the Royal Family hosted President Trump and the First Lady at St. George’s Hall in Windsor Castle.
The Duchess of Cambridge chose a stunning gold and cream lace gown by Phillipa Lepley for the occasion, perfectly complemented by sparkling earrings and the iconic Lovers’ Knot tiara.
Originally crafted for Queen Mary in 1914 by the House of Garrard, the tiara was later passed down to Queen Elizabeth II. It has also been worn by Princess Diana, who opted for the Spencer tiara on her wedding day despite being lent the Lovers’ Knot tiara.
Despite its elegance, the tiara reportedly caused Princess Diana discomfort due to its weight, leading to headaches. The exquisite piece features a French neo-classical design with 19 diamond frames and pearl drops hanging from lovers’ knots.
Maxwell Stone, a jewelry expert and creative director of Steven Stone, highlighted the tiara’s drawbacks, mentioning its weight and the noise from the swinging pearls. He emphasized the valuable nature of the tiara, adorned with top-quality diamonds and pearls.
Estimating the tiara’s worth to be around £1 million, Stone emphasized its historical significance and extravagance. Prior to the state banquet, Kate greeted the Trumps in a burgundy ensemble from Emilia Wickstead, paired with chocolate-brown suede heels by Gianvito Rossi.
Completing her look with a Jane Taylor London hat and a Chanel quilted flap bag, Kate exuded elegance and sophistication. Meanwhile, Queen Camilla opted for a striking cobalt-blue outfit at the state banquet, accessorized with a Fiona Clare gown and a sapphire tiara commissioned by Queen Elizabeth II in 1963.
The tiara, made from an antique sapphire and diamond necklace, made its debut on Camilla at her first state banquet as queen consort in 2022.
