Prince William recently returned from Brazil after attending the annual Earthshot Prize awards. On his first day of activities, he had a candid interview with Brazilian TV host Luciano Huck, who also hosted the Earthshot Prize Awards. During the interview, William discussed the challenges he and Princess Kate face in deciding whether to allow their eldest child, Prince George, to have a mobile phone. He also shared about being open and honest with their three children regarding their mother’s battle with cancer last year.

This interview in Brazil is not the first time William has addressed these personal family issues. Earlier this year, he talked about Kate’s health struggles when he appeared on Eugene Levy’s The Reluctant Traveller docuseries. According to former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond, William’s openness about personal matters signifies a shift in the royal family’s approach.

Jennie noted that in the past, securing interviews with royal family members was challenging, and formal sit-down interviews often felt staged. William’s more casual and genuine approach allows him to connect with a wider audience, making him more relatable. By discussing relatable dilemmas like the decision on giving George a mobile phone, William humanizes himself and the royal family.

In the interview, William also discussed the family’s decision to share Kate’s cancer diagnosis with their children and emphasized the importance of honesty within the family. Jennie explained that by sharing personal experiences, William enhances the royal family’s popularity and perception as relatable individuals navigating common family challenges.

With each interview, William’s likable and relatable persona shines through, portraying him as a devoted husband and father navigating the complexities of raising a young family in today’s world. By providing insights into his family life, William is establishing a connection with the public and potentially boosting the royal family’s appeal.
