Individuals often visit local pharmacies seeking remedies for minor ailments like colds, coughs, ear infections, and skin issues. The multitude of medication options in supermarkets, pharmacies, and online can leave consumers unsure about the best choices and where to purchase common medicines. Anum, a clinical pharmacist who shares wellness and lifestyle content on social media, provides expert healthcare advice.

In a recent TikTok video, Anum listed three actions she would “never” engage in. She emphasized never purchasing branded over-the-counter medications such as painkillers or hay fever tablets. Anum clarified that supermarket own brands contain the same active ingredients as their branded counterparts, advising consumers to opt for the generic versions to save money.

The NHS confirms that generic medicines are equivalent to branded ones as they contain identical active ingredients. The health service often uses the standard version, which is equally effective but more cost-efficient.

A to Z multivitamins are supplements containing essential vitamins and minerals to support overall health and boost nutrient intake. These supplements are widely promoted on social media and readily available in stores, appealing to those seeking quick health solutions. However, Anum highlighted a significant drawback of these multivitamins.

Anum pointed out that these multivitamins typically lack sufficient dosages of individual vitamins to provide substantial benefits. While these supplements may include B vitamins for energy, Vitamin C and zinc for immunity, and Vitamin A for vision, Anum suggested that people should focus on addressing specific deficiencies through blood tests rather than replacing non-deficient nutrients.

Furthermore, Anum cautioned against seeking medical advice from unqualified sources, emphasizing the risks of unreliable guidance and potential misinformation. Self-diagnosing symptoms via the internet can also lead to inaccurate conclusions and harmful outcomes.

The TikTok video amassed thousands of views, likes, and over 100 comments, with users expressing agreement and appreciation for the valuable advice shared by Anum.
