Oleksandr Usyk has provided a significant boost to Tyson Fury by announcing his intention to continue boxing for another two years. Earlier this year, the 38-year-old outlined his retirement plan, indicating that he had two more fights left before calling it quits. In July, Usyk defeated Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in front of a crowd of over 90,000 fans, securing the undisputed heavyweight championship for the second time in his career.
Following his victory, Usyk plans to take a break for the remainder of the year to spend time with his family before returning to the ring in 2026. Despite being ordered to defend his WBO title against Joseph Parker after the Dubois fight, the bout has been postponed due to medical reasons, with Usyk’s team successfully obtaining a 90-day extension.
In an interview with UNN, the Ukrainian boxer disclosed that he has resumed training with the goal of making a comeback next year. Contrary to his previous statements, Usyk now aims to retire at 41 and establish a sports academy. This news is welcomed by Fury, who had previously announced his retirement but later confirmed a comeback in the near future.
Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, mentioned that Fury is gearing up for his return to the ring in 2026 and is focused on a potential third clash with Usyk. While discussions about a fight between Fury and Anthony Joshua have circulated, Warren emphasized that Fury is primarily interested in facing Usyk again.
