Novak Djokovic has expressed his opinion that the recent emergence of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner cannot be compared to the dominance of himself, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Andy Murray in the past. Despite being a 24-time Grand Slam champion, Djokovic finds himself in a new scenario where Alcaraz and Sinner have secured nine out of the last ten major titles.

While Djokovic acknowledged the talent and impact of the young duo in raising the competitive bar, he emphasized that their success does not overshadow the achievements of the established tennis veterans. He made it clear that Alcaraz and Sinner are currently performing at a higher level than their peers but stressed the importance of respecting the legacy and caliber of players like Federer, Nadal, and Murray.

From 2003 to 2023, Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, and Murray redefined excellence in Grand Slam tennis, setting unprecedented standards and dominating the ATP rankings for two decades. Djokovic’s record-breaking 24 Grand Slam titles lead the pack, followed by Nadal with 22 and Federer with 20. In comparison, only two other players, Pete Sampras and Bjorn Borg, have achieved double-digit major victories.

Alcaraz and Sinner are currently making their mark by winning nine of the last ten major tournaments and meeting in the last three Grand Slam finals. Alcaraz, with six major titles, triumphed over Sinner at the US Open and French Open, while Sinner, a four-time Slam winner, defeated Alcaraz at Wimbledon and the Australian Open earlier this year.

The impressive performance of Alcaraz and Sinner raises the possibility of challenging Djokovic’s all-time record if they maintain their winning streak. However, as Djokovic has previously noted, sustaining such remarkable dominance in the sport is a challenging feat.

Djokovic, on the brink of surpassing Margaret Court as the most successful tennis player, faces hurdles in securing his 25th Grand Slam title. At 38, he grapples with physical strains from a lengthy career, recent injuries, and a two-year major drought. In contrast, Alcaraz and Sinner show no signs of slowing down, making Djokovic’s quest for his 25th title more arduous. Nevertheless, Djokovic’s resilience and track record suggest that he should never be counted out.
