Michelle Tolley was elated when she received recognition at the prestigious Daily Mirror’s Pride of Britain Awards for her dedicated campaign efforts. A delightful surprise awaited her during the event.

A steadfast advocate at 60 years old, often humorously referring to herself as “59 plus one,” Michelle has been relentless in seeking justice for over 30,000 individuals affected by the NHS infected blood scandal.

In the previous year, she, along with fellow campaigners Andrew Evans and Jason Evans, was honored with a Special Recognition Award at the Pride of Britain Awards. During the ceremony, while observing midwife Agnes Nisbett receiving a prize, Michelle learned of a generous gesture from the event’s new partner, P&O Cruises.

Excitement filled the air as it was announced that all award winners, including Michelle, would be treated to a cruise holiday. This unexpected gift came as a well-deserved break for Michelle, who has faced health challenges and tirelessly supported fellow victims while holding the government accountable.

Michelle contracted hepatitis C through a blood transfusion after giving birth in 1987, enduring years of illness before receiving a diagnosis and treatment. Turning her anger into activism, she has managed support groups, collaborated with the Hepatitis C Trust, and contributed to the government inquiry.

The prospect of a relaxing vacation was a welcomed change for Michelle and her husband, who had not traveled abroad since their marriage in 1984. Planning a cruise to the Canary Islands, Michelle even contemplated renewing their vows, a dream that P&O Cruises helped fulfill by arranging a special ceremony during their trip.

Setting sail on the Ventura cruise ship, Michelle, with limited sailing experience, was amazed by the ship’s grandeur, likening the experience to Christmas morning. The couple enjoyed various onboard amenities, delectable cuisine, entertainment, and excursions to Madeira and the Canary Islands.

Their explorations included touring banana tree-filled Madeira with a friendly taxi driver named Manuel and navigating Las Palmas on a tuk-tuk. In Lisbon, they embarked on a coach and river cruise, immersing themselves in the sights and history of the city along the River Tagus.

Reflecting on their unforgettable holiday, Michelle and Dean are eager to embark on another cruise adventure. Michelle emphasizes the exceptional treatment and hospitality they received onboard Ventura, encouraging others to experience the fantastic facilities and warm atmosphere of a cruise vacation.
