After the passing of Matthew Perry in 2023, fans faced challenges reconciling the news of his ketamine addiction with the beloved character Chandler Bing from the popular show “Friends.” To offer a more comprehensive insight into the life of the Canadian actor, Netflix is set to release a three-part documentary series titled “The One About Matthew Perry.”
The docuseries will delve into Perry’s evolution from a rising comedic talent to his iconic role on the acclaimed NBC sitcom. Featuring never-before-revealed accounts from close associates, including lifelong friends and his sister Mia Perry Bowick, a grief specialist, the show aims to portray Perry as a multifaceted individual beyond his on-screen persona.
Mia Perry Bowick shared in a statement that it took time for her to be ready to reveal her memories and the complexities of loving Matthew, emphasizing the importance of seeing him as a complete person beyond his struggles with addiction.
Tragically, Perry was discovered deceased at the age of 54 due to a ketamine overdose in his home hot tub. Several individuals pleaded guilty to charges related to providing him with the drug, with Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who supplied Perry with ketamine, currently appealing his 30-month prison sentence.
In addition to celebrating Perry’s life, the documentary promises to shed light on his private battles, honoring his legacy of openness and advocacy. The highly anticipated series is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on October 27th.
