Canadian authorities announced on Monday that a 51-year-old man, Marc-André Porlier from Montreal, has been arrested for allegedly issuing death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) disclosed that Porlier faces charges of making threats to cause death or bodily harm, following an email sent to various recipients, including a senator.
According to the RCMP news release, the accused also made threats against “all Canadian police officers.” Porlier had previously been convicted of arson and mischief for setting fire to a church in Toronto back in 2017, as confirmed by law enforcement. At the time of his recent arrest, he was reportedly on probation for those offenses.
Porlier made a court appearance on Saturday, as indicated by the news release, with the charges yet to be proven in court.
