Madonna, the queen of pop, is set to reclaim her throne at the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). With a remarkable 11 nominations, Madonna has secured the top spot this year, surpassing even Taylor Swift. This marks the third time in her career that Madonna has led the nominations at the VMAs.

Her nominations, including artist and video of the year, are in recognition of her successful album “Confessions II” and its corresponding film. Madonna’s achievements outshine Taylor Swift, who holds the title for the most awarded solo artist in VMA history, with nine nominations for her album “The Life of a Showgirl” and the music video for “The Fate of Ophelia.” Following closely behind Swift are Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande, each with seven nominations.

In a nod to her past successes, Madonna previously topped the VMAs nominations in 1990 and 1998 with her “Vogue” and “Ray of Light” eras. However, her iconic performance at the inaugural 1984 ceremony, where she donned a wedding dress and a “Boy Toy” belt buckle while singing “Like a Virgin,” remains a standout moment in VMA history.

Among Madonna’s nominations are video of the year, artist of the year, and song and collaboration of the year for “Bring Your Love,” featuring fellow nominee Carpenter. The coveted video of the year award will see Madonna’s “Confessions” competing against Swift’s “Ophelia,” as well as videos from Grande, Carpenter, Bruno Mars, and Gener8ion with Yung Lean.

Voting for 13 categories is open to the public this year, with winners to be revealed during the live broadcast of the ceremony on September 27 on CBS, MTV, and Paramount+.
