The World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS), which saw British Olympic champion Alex Yee clinch victory in 2024 following his success at the Paris Olympics, is set to make a comeback in London in 2026 during the London T100 Triathlon weekend.

Funded by the National Lottery through UK Sport in collaboration with British Triathlon, the new London WTCS event will take place on July 25-26, 2026, marking its return to the capital since 2015. Hosted at the Excel Centre, the event will be organized by the PTO and London Marathon Events as part of the popular London T100 Triathlon weekend. Last year’s T100km distance races, won by Lucy Charles-Barclay and Hayden Wilde, will be replaced by the shorter WTCS format, while the amateur segment will still feature the PTO’s 100km triathlon along with Olympic, Sprint, and Relay options.

Sam Renouf, the PTO CEO, expressed the significance of bringing a WTCS race back to London to build on the success of the British team’s performances in Paris. The long-term agreement between the PTO and World Triathlon, established in October 2024 and running until 2036, aims to expand the sport through various initiatives, including hosting shorter-distance events alongside the T100 Tour.

Hugh Brasher, CEO of London Marathon Events, highlighted the collaboration with the PTO and World Triathlon in bringing the WTCS to London, emphasizing the event’s role in inspiring more people to be active. Antonio F. Arimary, World Triathlon President, emphasized the strategic partnership’s ability to offer different professional triathlon distances, catering to various opportunities and aligning with road permits in London.

The PTO, in partnership with British Triathlon, aims to promote the event to drive participation and deliver a comprehensive grassroots program, extending the positive impact beyond the race weekend. Ruth Daniels, British Triathlon CEO, expressed excitement about the major event returning to the UK, providing British athletes with a platform to compete at home and engage with new audiences while creating long-term community legacies.

Esther Britten, Head of Major Events at UK Sport, highlighted the National Lottery’s commitment to supporting world-class sporting events that enable fans to support GB athletes and benefit local communities. This announcement adds to London’s recent sports successes, following the Mayor of London’s celebration of women’s sports events that attracted millions of fans to the capital in 2025, showcasing the city’s vibrant sports calendar.
