A killer who was involved in a violent attack at the Old Bailey courthouse has caused a stir in court with offensive remarks towards the judge. Lorik Lupqi, 22, was part of a group that brutally murdered two individuals and severely injured another during a music video shoot in North London. The victims, Leo Reid, 15, and Klevi Shekaj, 23, were mistakenly targeted by the gang wielding large knives on June 29, 2023. Lupqi, along with Jason Furtado, 28, orchestrated the attack and enlisted the help of three others – Abel Chunda, 29, Xavier Poponne, 22, and Eden Clark, 31.

Following a lengthy trial at the Old Bailey which began in March, all five perpetrators were convicted of double murder and attempted murder. Lupqi’s violent tendencies were evident during the trial when he assaulted one of his co-accused, resulting in a bloody altercation. Due to concerns about further outbursts, Lupqi was restrained with double handcuffs in court on September 25.

The families of the victims expressed outrage at the lack of remorse shown by the convicted murderers. Valentina Locci, Leo’s mother, condemned the heartless nature of the killings and the devastating impact on her family. Similarly, Valbona Shekaj, Klevi’s mother, described her son as a remarkable individual and criticized the defendants’ behavior during the trial, highlighting their lack of empathy.

Despite the emotional victim impact statements, Lupqi showed no remorse when given the opportunity to address the court. His disrespectful comment towards Judge Anuja Dhir KC resulted in a stern warning. The sentencing hearing was adjourned until September 26, with the defendants facing potential life sentences. Judge Dhir emphasized the significance of remorse in determining their eligibility for parole.

The courtroom atmosphere was tense as the families of the victims expressed their anguish over the senseless violence that took the lives of their loved ones. The defendants’ callous demeanor throughout the trial further exacerbated their grief and pain, leaving them disillusioned by the lack of humanity displayed by the perpetrators.
