An investment firm that attracted several well-known sports personalities to Formula 1 by becoming part-owners of the Alpine team is reportedly considering selling its stake. Otro Capital, along with other investors, acquired nearly 25% of the Enstone-based team back in 2023.

Among the notable investors were Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who are also involved in owning Wrexham AFC through their firm, Maximum Effort Investments. Other prominent figures in the investment group included former world No.1 golfer Rory McIlroy, two-time heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua, football players Juan Mata and Trent Alexander-Arnold, and three-time Super Bowl champions Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

Reports indicate that Otro Capital has initiated initial talks about divesting its share in the Alpine team. The team’s value stood at approximately £685 million when the investment was made two years ago, reflecting the increasing popularity of F1 worldwide and consequent rise in team valuations.

Red Bull Racing reportedly rejected a significant offer for its junior squad, Racing Bulls, while Haas also turned down multiple lucrative bids this year. If Otro decides to sell, they stand to make a substantial profit from their initial £165 million investment in 2023. However, discussions regarding the potential sale are said to be in the early stages.

It remains uncertain whether Reynolds, McElhenney, or RedBird Capital Partners are contemplating a sale. Alpine’s current performance places them at the bottom of the constructors’ championship, with only 20 points this season, significantly less than other teams like Sauber.

Looking ahead, Alpine will switch to new Mercedes power units for the upcoming season to improve performance, as their current Renault engines are considered less powerful than competitors’. The team has yet to announce its driver lineup for 2026, with Pierre Gasly confirmed for a contract extension.

The future of Franco Colapinto, who has yet to score points in 2025, remains uncertain. However, there are rumors suggesting that the Argentine driver might stay, with a potential announcement before the Brazilian Grand Prix next weekend.

Sky has reduced the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, offering members savings of £192 and access to over 1,400 live matches across various leagues. Sky will broadcast at least 215 live Premier League matches next season, representing an increase of up to 100 more matches.
