The International Swimming League (ISL) is making a comeback after a five-year break with an All-Star Match set to take place at the London Aquatics Centre on December 19, as announced by the league. This event will showcase top swimmers from around the world competing for a substantial prize pool, with specific details to be revealed at a later date. Renowned swimmers like Caeleb Dressel from the U.S., Adam Peaty from Britain, and Katinka Hosszu from Hungary have previously participated in ISL events.

The decision marks a significant step forward in the plans laid out by ISL Commissioner Ben Allen, who expressed ambitions for the league to resume activities in the fall of 2026 with a revamped business model focusing more on sponsorships and media partnerships rather than a sole investor. The ISL, established in 2019 to offer a professional swimming competition outside the Olympic schedule, last held a season in 2021 before facing disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic and challenges related to its main supporter, Ukrainian businessman Konstantin Grigorishin, amid the conflict in Ukraine.

In December, Allen revealed the initial proposal for a seven-match return season spanning North America, Europe, Asia, and possibly the Middle East, considering a potential shift to a single-day competition format following previous two-day events. The league also confirmed in July its commitment to compensate around 300 athletes with outstanding prize money from the 2021 season.

The announcement of the London All-Star Match indicates a trial run for this condensed approach before a broader comeback. Allen expressed excitement about the upcoming event, highlighting London as an ideal host city with a world-class venue and a passionate sports audience. The Aquatics Centre, originally constructed for the 2012 London Olympics, has a history of hosting significant international swimming competitions.

Further details regarding the participating swimmers, match format, ticketing information, and broadcast arrangements for the London event will be disclosed by the ISL in due course.
