Sky Q, a highly acclaimed set-top box, is recognized as one of the top devices in its category. Praised for its features like live TV recording, premium channel access, and streaming apps such as Disney+ and Netflix, Sky seems to be transitioning away from its satellite-driven platform towards internet-based products like the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV. This shift may pave the way for a new competitor to enter the market.

Humax has unveiled the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, a device that closely resembles Sky Q in functionality. Equipped with a 2TB hard drive for storing TV shows, movies, and sports events, the Aura EZ offers a rare physical recording option in a time where such features are increasingly scarce.

Apart from aerial recordings, the Aura EZ operates on Freely, allowing users to access live TV through broadband. Developed by the Freeview team, Freely provides over 60 live channels and an extensive library of on-demand content. This setup enables easy portability, simple installation, and regular feature updates for the device.

Noteworthy features of the Aura EZ include 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio, and an integrated TV guide displaying current and upcoming programs. Users can control the device remotely using the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app to manage recordings and browse schedules from anywhere.

While Freely may not match Sky’s premium sports and movie offerings, it is a free service without any subscription fees.

The Humax Aura EZ is scheduled for a UK launch in February 2026 with a retail price of £249.

In a related development, Sky has announced a new subscription bundle that combines various major streaming services at a discounted monthly rate of £24. Customers will gain access to Disney+, Netflix, Hayu, and the upcoming HBO Max. Subscribers to the Ultimate TV plan will also receive over 130 premium channels, including Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, and Sky History.

Furthermore, Sky Cinema customers will enjoy a new Disney movie channel integrated into the TV guide.

The £24 bundle comprises:
– Netflix Standard with Ads
– Disney+ Standard with Ads (starting in March)
– HBO Max Basic with Ads (from March 26)
– Hayu (available from July, with selected content accessible from March)
– Over 130 Sky channels

This move signifies Sky’s effort to consolidate multiple streaming platforms under one subscription, offering enhanced value to consumers.
