Canada’s Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson advanced to the quarterfinals of the Montreal Elite beach volleyball pro tour event on Friday with a convincing 21-13, 21-18 victory over the Brazilian duo of Thamela Coradello and Victoria Lopes. The Toronto-based Olympic silver medalists extended their flawless record to 3-0, securing the top spot in Pool A.

Wilkerson emphasized the duo’s strategic approach and effective communication, highlighting their trust in defense and side-out capabilities. Their primary focus for the weekend is to persevere and compete relentlessly.

On the other hand, Lea Monkhouse from Mississauga, Ontario, and Marie-Alex Belanger from Saint-Alphonse-Rodriguez, Quebec, faced setbacks, losing both matches and dropping to a 0-3 record in the tournament.

In the men’s competition, Sam Schachter from Richmond Hill, Ontario, and Jonny Pickett from Wiarton, Ontario, suffered a narrow 21-13, 23-21 defeat against Brazil’s Andre Loyola Stein and Renato Lima. Despite the loss, the Canadian pair secured a spot in the playoffs with a 1-2 record.

Meanwhile, Steve Abrams from Georgetown, Ontario, and Cameron Chadwick from Barrie, Ontario, endured a challenging match against Americans Taylor Crabb and Andy Benesh, resulting in a 21-23, 21-18, 15-12 defeat, leaving them at 0-3 in the tournament standings.

The competition will continue until Sunday at Parc Jean-Drapeau, offering more thrilling matches and intense showdowns on the beach volleyball court.
