Millions of Gmail users are in for a significant update as Google announces the rollout of a new feature allowing users to change their email addresses. This update comes as a welcome change for those who are looking to switch from their original Gmail account name.
Google stated, “Your digital identity has just received an upgrade.” Users can now modify their Google Account username (the part before @gmail.com) used for signing in to various apps and services like Gmail, Photos, and Drive.
An added benefit of this update is that the original email address will continue to function alongside the new one. This means that users won’t miss any messages sent to either account.
Google reassures users that their saved data, including photos, previous messages, and old emails, will remain intact. However, this update is currently only available in the US, leaving users in the UK waiting for its arrival.
For users in the US, Google advises going to the Google account settings, selecting personal info, then email, and finally Google account email. If the option to change the Google account email is visible, users can proceed to select a new and unique username. It is important to note that only one new address can be created every 12 months.
If you are residing in the US, now is the time to review your settings and see if this update has been implemented on your account.
