Google has announced that it will no longer support its Chrome browser on older versions of Apple’s macOS platform for MacBook users. While Chrome will still function on MacBooks and iMacs, users will not receive updates or security patches, potentially leaving them vulnerable to cyber threats.
The change will impact Macs running macOS 12 (Monterey) or earlier, prompting users to upgrade to a newer operating system like macOS Ventura to ensure continued browser support. However, some older Mac models, such as pre-2017 iMacs and pre-2018 MacBook Airs, may not be compatible with Ventura, necessitating the purchase of a new device for safe Chrome usage.
The transition is set to take effect starting in July of this year. Google specified that Chrome version 150 is the last to support macOS 12 (Monterey), while Chrome version 151, scheduled for release on July 28, 2026, will require macOS 13 Ventura or newer for future updates.
Users on macOS 12 (Monterey) are advised to switch to a supported macOS version to receive the latest security updates and Chrome features as older Chrome versions will no longer receive updates.
