Google is reportedly gearing up to introduce a significant enhancement for Gmail users, allowing them to change their email addresses, a feature that has been long-awaited. Previously, users were locked into their @gmail.com addresses without the option to modify them, necessitating the creation of a new account for those seeking a different name.

According to observations by the vigilant team at 9to5Google, Google is set to enable users to make substantial updates to their accounts, as indicated in a support document that outlines the process of automatically forwarding emails from the old address to the new one.

This forthcoming update is likely to be well-received by individuals who wish to alter their account names due to personal preferences or changes in circumstances.

Explaining the significance of the email address associated with Google Accounts, Google stated that it serves as the login credential for accessing Google services and aids in account identification. Users will have the option to switch their current @gmail.com address to a new one ending in @gmail.com, receiving emails at both addresses without affecting their stored data, including photos, messages, and emails sent to the old address.

While details regarding the release date and availability of this feature remain undisclosed, it is noted that Google’s announcement has been communicated solely through a support document in Hindi, hinting that users in India could be among the first to experience the update.

As users anticipate more information from Google, they are advised to stay informed if they wish to change their existing email addresses to something new.
