An actor from the popular TV series Game of Thrones has managed to avoid a driving ban despite being caught speeding twice in a single day. Harry Lloyd, who portrayed Viserys Targaryen in the HBO show, was stopped by authorities on the A205 in Clapham, southwest London, on two separate occasions last year.

On November 28, he was recorded driving at 24mph and later the same day at 25mph, both exceeding the 20mph speed limit in place. The 41-year-old actor was behind the wheel of his £40,000 BMW at the time of the violations. Admitting to the speeding charges, Lloyd, who resides in Wandsworth, pleaded guilty at the Lavender Hill Magistrates Court.

Having already accumulated nine points on his license from prior offenses, Lloyd explained to the court that he was dealing with family issues on the day of the incidents.

He recounted to the court: “It was Thanksgiving that day, and my wife, who is American, had our one-year-old son in the hospital. I was quite occupied with various errands and not fully focused.” Lloyd mentioned the necessity of attending medical appointments for his children as a reason for driving.

“My wife, being American, does not hold a UK license,” he explained, in response to questioning by Magistrate Anna Troiano about alternate transportation options. Lloyd acknowledged the possibility of using a taxi but emphasized the familiarity and comfort of the car for his daughter, who has medical appointments in Wandsworth.

He iterated: “The hospital is approximately a 20 to 30-minute drive away. In such circumstances, we do what is necessary. My daughter’s appointments in Wandsworth are routine, particularly after school. It is more convenient for her. She is seven years old, and my son is two.” The Magistrate decided not to impose a driving disqualification considering Lloyd’s family situation.

However, Lloyd was cautioned about the consequences of any further infractions, being warned that accumulating more points would lead to an automatic disqualification. Expressing his commitment to cautious driving, Lloyd was fined £384, with additional fees totaling £284.

Harry Lloyd, a descendant of author Charles Dickens, has appeared in various productions, including The Hollow Crown, The Theory of Everything, and Legion. Notably, he starred in Closer to the Moon and featured alongside Cillian Murphy in Anthropoid.
