Four individuals implicated in an investigation involving the manufacturing of explosives and firearms in London, Ontario, are now confronted with 19 additional charges, as detailed in court records filed on Tuesday. Jerry Tong, Zekun (Alex) Wang, Fei (Frank) Han, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji were initially charged in January. They all have ties to Western University, either as students or recent graduates, with the male trio having backgrounds in the university’s engineering department. The revised set of charges presented to the Ontario Court of Justice raises the total to 31 distinct counts, encompassing joint charges against all four and specific accusations against individual defendants.
The fresh allegations involve the possession of five specified explosive materials, possession of stolen items, and unauthorized access to computer data linked to firearm production. The investigation, which commenced on January 24 following a trespassing incident at Western University involving two men, eventually led to the apprehension of the suspects at a residence in the University Heights neighborhood.
The police conducted an extensive search spanning multiple days at the residence where Wang, Han, and Ji resided, as well as at two additional properties in Orléans, Ottawa, and Gatineau, Quebec. Initially facing multiple firearms charges, including handgun manufacturing and possession of a loaded restricted handgun, the accused now encounter new charges related to magazines, suppression devices, and additional prohibited firearms. Tong and Wang are also accused of possessing and carelessly storing a rifle.
Furthermore, Tong faces supplementary charges linked to events in other regions, such as storing rifles in Orleans, manufacturing a banned firearm in Ottawa, and possessing a rifle at an unauthorized location in Quebec. Despite holding a firearms license, Tong’s charges include possessing a firearm at an unapproved location not specified in his license.
Wang now confronts charges for manufacturing a weapon between September 1, 2025, and January 24, 2026, while both he and Tong are accused of breaking into a Western building on October 9, 2025. The quartet is further charged with possessing explosive substances, including pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), trinitrotoluene (TNT), dinitrophenol (DNP), hexamethylene triperoxide diamine (HMTD), and lead azide.
Additionally, they all face a new charge of possessing Western University property valued at less than $5,000. Wang has an individual charge related to accessing computer data concerning firearms or prohibited devices for manufacturing purposes. The accused have varying numbers of charges, with Tong facing 28, Wang 20, Han 11, and Ji 13. As the legal proceedings unfold, two individuals are out on bail while the other two remain in custody. Tong did not seek bail and remains detained, while Han was denied bail and returned to custody. Wang was granted bail with stringent conditions in March, and Ji is also out on bail without sureties.
