Dolly Parton, known for her journey from humble beginnings to success, has transformed her life story into various forms of entertainment, including music, a theme park, a podcast, and now a Broadway musical set to debut later this year. Titled “Dolly: A True Original Musical,” the show aims to present Dolly’s personal narrative through her own words and the influential songs that have shaped her experiences. In a video announcement, the 80-year-old singer reassured fans that the musical would authentically reflect her life, focusing on her roots, struggles, triumphs, and personal growth.

The musical will feature a blend of new compositions specifically crafted for the production and some of Dolly Parton’s classic hits like “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “9 to 5.” Scheduled to commence on December 7 in New York City, the performances are slated to run until November 21, 2027.

Expressing her excitement, Dolly Parton, with a career spanning nearly seven decades and boasting over 3,000 songs and more than 100 million albums sold globally, shared that seeing her life story unfold on Broadway was a lifelong dream fulfilled. Notably, she is a distinguished member of both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame.

The musical initially premiered in Nashville last summer to a sold-out audience at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts. Director Bartlett Sher remarked on the profound connection audiences have with Dolly, noting her ability to inspire and bring joy to people’s lives. The show is positioned to offer an intimate portrayal of Dolly Parton’s untold story, going beyond the glitz and glamour associated with her image.

Tickets for “Dolly: A True Original Musical” will be available to the public starting Friday, July 10.
