Peter Crawford, a convicted sex offender, has received a suspended four-month prison sentence for breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order by being in close proximity to children while in possession of a large bag of sweets. Despite residing near a facility for vulnerable individuals, Crawford admitted to violating the order on two occasions last year, prompting the court’s decision at Laganside Magistrates Court in Belfast.

Having previously faced charges for possessing explicit child images, Crawford was found guilty of breaking the order by being within 100 meters of children, including at a community center. Authorities discovered his suspicious behavior near a children’s play area, leading to the confiscation of the bag of sweets. Crawford’s lawyer acknowledged his client’s wrongdoing, attributing it to his lack of social connections and the center’s encouragement for individuals to engage outside their homes.

The Sexual Offences Prevention Order prohibits Crawford from being near areas where children congregate or play. This latest breach follows previous offenses involving the download of illegal images and visits to family-friendly zones.

During his recent court appearance, Crawford’s residence, located in close proximity to a home for vulnerable families, raised concerns. However, the police investigation determined that his living arrangement did not violate the order. Despite a suspended sentence in June for possessing indecent images, Crawford faces the possibility of imprisonment if he reoffends within the next two years.

In 2004, Crawford served an 18-month jail term for downloading a significant number of explicit child images. The court warned that further transgressions could lead to a prison sentence.
