Christian Horner is reportedly being considered as a potential replacement for Andy Cowell as the team principal of Aston Martin. The 56-year-old is rumored to be on the verge of dismissal following the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Horner, the former head of Red Bull, has been looking to return to Formula 1 since leaving his previous position in July.
After a challenging race in Las Vegas, RacingNews365 reported that Cowell’s position at Aston Martin was in jeopardy due to the team’s current struggles in the Constructors’ Championship, sitting in seventh place with a slim lead over Sauber in ninth. The report suggested that Andreas Seidl, a former McLaren and Sauber executive, was the frontrunner to take over.
BBC Sport has also mentioned Horner as a potential candidate to succeed Cowell at Aston Martin. Horner, a prominent figure in the sport who has been linked with several teams post his departure, including Ferrari, Haas, and Alpine, sees this opportunity as a significant one.
Rumors of Horner’s move to Aston Martin surfaced prior to the Singapore Grand Prix but were promptly denied by Cowell, who stated that there were no plans to involve Horner in any capacity within the team’s operations or investment.
If Horner were to join Aston Martin, it would lead to a reunion with his rival Zak Brown, the CEO of McLaren Racing, who previously expressed some criticisms towards Horner. Despite this, Red Bull, Horner’s former team, had a successful outing in Las Vegas as Max Verstappen secured victory, keeping his hopes alive in the Drivers’ Championship race.
Furthermore, McLaren faced disqualification after the race, allowing Verstappen to close the gap on Norris in the championship standings as they head to the next race in Qatar.
