In a few days, I will present my second Budget as the Chancellor. My primary focus will be on supporting working families by addressing NHS waiting lists, reducing national debt, and lowering the cost of living. These issues are not only crucial for the country but are also my top priorities as Chancellor.
One key aspect of our Budget will be tackling NHS waiting lists, fulfilling our commitment to revitalizing the NHS, undoing the austerity measures imposed by the previous government, and ensuring patients receive prompt treatment without prolonged delays.
Addressing the national debt is another critical goal. Spending a substantial portion of our budget on debt interest is not progressive; these funds should instead be allocated to essential services like schools, hospitals, law enforcement, and communities.
To alleviate the financial burden on households, we are determined to reduce the cost of living. High prices disproportionately affect ordinary families, making it a pressing issue for many. Our upcoming Budget will take decisive steps to address these challenges and provide relief to working families.
The government has already implemented measures to ease financial pressures on households, such as freezing prescription charges and rail fares, establishing breakfast clubs in schools, and combating ticket touting to make entertainment more affordable for music enthusiasts. These initiatives are just the beginning, as we aim to further assist people with their daily expenses through the upcoming Budget.
Our ability to alleviate the cost of living is a result of the economic stability we have restored and our prudent spending practices to avoid repeating past mistakes. We are actively combatting waste and fraud to ensure that every pound is utilized effectively, whether in asylum support, eliminating police and crime commissioners, or preventing welfare fraud.
The forthcoming Budget is designed to benefit you and your family, aiming to foster a fairer, stronger, and more secure Britain.
