The daughter of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, Violet, 19, delivered a compelling speech at the United Nations addressing the impact of the coronavirus. She emphasized the importance of clean air and mask-wearing to prevent the spread of long Covid-19, expressing concerns that the future of young people is being jeopardized.

During her address, Violet highlighted the discrepancy between being touted as the future by leaders while witnessing their present being eroded by the ongoing pandemic. She criticized adults for disregarding the risks of airborne transmission and long Covid, citing a lack of choice and information for young individuals.

Violet underscored the airborne nature of SARS CoV2, stressing the severe consequences of infections on the body. She also pointed out the escalating risks of long-term health complications from repeated infections and quoted Dr. Akiko Iwasaki’s research on the prevalence of long Covid among children.

Expressing her distress over the virus’s impact on schools, Violet expressed fear for children who may face a future filled with pain and limitations due to long Covid. She condemned the failure to protect children from airborne diseases and urged the adoption of technologies to prevent such illnesses.

Looking ahead, Violet raised concerns about the potential consequences of unchecked infections in the coming years and advocated for public health measures, including the prohibition of smoking in public spaces.

In her speech, Violet called for a collective effort to prioritize clean air as a fundamental human right, akin to clean water. She urged the establishment of widespread clean air infrastructure to safeguard future generations from preventable health risks.

Currently pursuing studies at Yale University, Violet has already contributed to academic research by publishing a paper on the Los Angeles County wildfires. Long Covid, characterized by symptoms lasting over 12 weeks, poses various health challenges, including fatigue, respiratory issues, joint pain, and cognitive impairments.
