Australian racer Joey Mawson has been accused of assaulting a nurse at Michael Schumacher’s residence in Gland, Switzerland, after a party. Mawson, 29, allegedly raped the woman while she was unconscious following a gathering at Schumacher’s estate.
Mawson refutes the allegations, asserting that their relationship was consensual and intimate, mentioning a previous encounter at a nightclub in Geneva. Hailing from Sydney, Australia, Mawson was once considered a promising Formula 1 talent before opting to race in Australia due to a decline in his performance.
Known for his friendship with Mick Schumacher, Mawson competed against future F1 stars like Lando Norris and George Russell. Despite being a two-time Australian S5000 champion, Mawson is currently banned from racing due to a doping scandal.
A trial was set to commence, with a detailed indictment prepared by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the District of La Cote. However, Mawson failed to appear in court, resulting in an adjournment of the proceedings to a later date.
The Schumacher family is not implicated in the case. The indictment accuses Mawson of raping the nurse after a night of drinking vodka cocktails. The nurse, who cared for Schumacher, allegedly required constant attention following his skiing accident in 2013.
According to court documents, the incident occurred on November 23, 2019, when Mawson was at Schumacher’s residence playing pool with staff members. Subsequently, he is accused of returning to the nurse’s room and assaulting her while she was unconscious. The nurse reported the incident over two years later in January 2022.
