A leading chain of pharmacies on the high street has successfully rescued 60 branches of a competing firm from imminent closure. Allied Pharmacies has stepped in to manage the 60 sites previously owned by Jhoots Pharmacies, most of which are currently not operational. Allied has assured the public of its dedication to restoring essential pharmacy services at these locations.
This acquisition expands Allied’s reach to approximately 210 branches in England and Wales. Recognizing the crucial role of community pharmacies in public health, Allied emphasized its commitment to swiftly resume pharmaceutical services at the newly acquired sites.
Recent reports revealed that Jhoots Pharmacies had been shutting down some of their outlets, sparking concerns about healthcare access in affected communities. Allegations of financial issues and delayed staff payments were also raised.
The ownership of Jhoots Pharmacies is divided between brothers Manjit and Sarbjit Jhooty. While Manjit oversees over 20 branches through his companies, Sarbjit is reported to own the remaining 129 locations. Both brothers have addressed the challenges faced by their respective branches in separate statements to the media.
In response to inquiries, a spokesperson for Manjit Jhooty reaffirmed the stability and functionality of the pharmacies under his management. Sarbjit Jhooty acknowledged workforce and recruitment challenges and assured the public of ongoing efforts to resolve these issues.
