A significant ABC affiliate has chosen not to broadcast Jimmy Kimmel Live!, despite its airing on Disney and other networks.
Sinclair Inc, which pays to air ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! on its local stations, is maintaining its decision from last week to keep the show off the air indefinitely. However, the late-night show will be shown tonight on other ABC affiliates following constructive discussions between ABC and Jimmy over the past few days.
Sinclair Inc has confirmed that they will air their own news programming instead of Jimmy Kimmel Live! tonight. In a statement, they mentioned, “Starting Tuesday night, Sinclair will preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! on our ABC affiliate stations and replace it with news programming. Discussions with ABC are ongoing as we assess the potential return of the show.” Ongoing talks are being held between Sinclair Inc and Jimmy Kimmel Live!, a show that has been a fixture on US television since 2003.
Despite reports of the veteran host’s frustration with the network due to his suspension following controversial comments made on recent shows, Jimmy Kimmel will still host the program tonight on the relevant channels.
It is reported that the 57-year-old host plans to depart from ABC when his contract expires next May. However, he has agreed to resume hosting to ensure his crew does not miss out on pay or work. The future remains uncertain for both Jimmy and his team if he chooses not to pursue options with ABC after his contract ends.
An insider revealed, “He is returning to support his team and out of respect for them, ensuring they do not miss any pay or work they have already lost.” Staff members reportedly continued to receive payment during the show’s hiatus, but some were seen leaving the Hollywood studio amidst the controversy. Talks have resumed with Jimmy and ABC, leading to the confirmation of the show’s return this week.
The insider suggested that Jimmy, who has been in the industry since 1989, is still upset and is likely to express his feelings during the live broadcast tonight. They stated, “He is not expected to back down. The past week has only made him more resolute. We anticipate a strong response from him, as we rely on him to stand up for what is right. Failure to do so may lead to unrest.”
