Liberal Democrat leaders have emphasized the need for the UK to safeguard its political landscape from being influenced by figures like Nigel Farage, aligning it with Donald Trump’s agenda. Calum Miller, the party’s foreign affairs spokesperson, criticized Farage for supporting bullies over Britain’s interests, labeling him as a “plastic patriot” for belittling the nation during a recent visit to the US.
Miller condemned Farage as Trump’s top supporter and accused him of undermining the country’s security and prosperity while speaking negatively about Britain in the US Congress. He urged to defy Farage’s cynicism and plastic patriotism, emphasizing the importance of securing politics from Trump-like influences, specifically singling out Farage’s ambitions for the Prime Minister’s office.
Additionally, Sir Ed Davey cautioned against Farage’s potential regressive impact on British values, warning that he mirrors Trump’s ideology. Davey hinted at the possibility of coalition efforts with the Labour Party to prevent Farage from gaining power, highlighting the crucial need to uphold democratic values and resist any regression inspired by Trump’s America.
