A horse named Haaland made a remarkable comeback to win a race at the Sandown-Hillside track in Australia. Despite not having as prolific a record as the famous Premier League star Erling Haaland, the equine athlete secured his first victory in over 800 days in a £25,000 handicap event. Jockey and trainer Lucinda Boyd guided Haaland to a neck victory, marking her 118th win as a rider and the tenth since she became a licensed trainer.
The emotional victory celebration included Lucinda Boyd and her husband Anthony, who jointly manage their Ballarat stable. Lucinda expressed her joy at Haaland’s well-deserved win, attributing the success to the horse’s fitness and strategic adjustments in equipment and race distance. However, Lucinda later revealed the horse’s extraordinary journey to recovery, mentioning that Haaland had suffered from atrial fibrillation, requiring multiple shocks and even experiencing a heart attack during treatment. She described Haaland’s triumph as a true resurrection, highlighting the horse’s resilience to overcome such challenges and achieve victory on the metropolitan racing stage.
