A 35-year-old man, Jermaine Jabaar Typray Baker, was fatally shot with 13 bullets in a tragic incident in Minneapolis. The suspect, identified as Tyrone de Shun Childs Jr, allegedly shot Baker at close range and then proceeded to search through his belongings as Baker lay lifeless on the ground. The violent event took place in the early hours of August 27 on Hennepin Avenue.
Reportedly, Childs attempted to rob Baker, who defiantly challenged him by saying, “You’re going to have to shoot me.” Subsequently, Childs allegedly fired 13 shots, some even when Baker was already down, before rifling through his possessions. Childs then nonchalantly walked away and entered the residence of a woman with whom he shares a child.
Expressing her grief, Crystal Henry-Smith, Baker’s mother, expressed a desire for justice. Childs is facing charges of second-degree murder. While a second individual was also injured in the incident, further details about them were not disclosed by the Minneapolis police.
Childs is accused of second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. The charges state that Childs shot Baker 13 times during a robbery and then proceeded to search through Baker’s belongings after he had been killed.
The tragic sequence of events was captured on extensive surveillance footage. Following the crime, Childs changed clothes at the residence of his child’s mother and left in a vehicle. Another person was injured in the shooting incident.
In a separate violent occurrence in Minneapolis, eight individuals, including four critically injured, were wounded in a shooting at a homeless camp on private property on September 15. Earlier the same day, a shooting near a transit station left five people injured just blocks away.
Additionally, recent violence in Minneapolis included the assassination of Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband in their home, as well as the fatal shooting of another state lawmaker and his wife on the same day in June. Moreover, a tragic mass shooting at a Minneapolis church in late August resulted in the deaths of two children and injuries to 21 others.
