A tragic incident occurred in Blackpool as a man lost his life when a tree branch fell on him in a park during severe winds. The man, said to be homeless, was living in a tent in Revoe Park on Central Drive when the branch struck him around 5am on Monday. Despite efforts by emergency services, the man, in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are working to notify his next of kin, and his death is not considered suspicious.
A local witness mentioned that the man had been residing in one of two tents in the park for a few days. The falling branch severely damaged one tent and narrowly missed another occupied by a homeless couple. The police confirmed the incident and stated that it was too early to confirm if the man was homeless. The Blackpool Council expressed condolences to the man’s family and friends and expressed the need to understand the circumstances leading to his presence in the park.
This unfortunate event coincided with strong winds affecting parts of west and south-west England and Wales. The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning from Sunday evening until Monday evening due to the gusty conditions.
