RuPaul’s Drag Race personality La Voix is set to compete on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing for a chance at the glitterball trophy. However, she disclosed that she has a specific motive behind her decision to join the show.
During a press event for the show’s launch, the drag queen was questioned about the well-known “Strictly curse,” where participants often end their current relationships due to developing romantic connections with other contestants or professional dancers. La Voix responded boldly and humorously to the inquiry.
“I welcome it,” she boldly stated. “I’m currently unattached.” La Voix expressed her delight in living out her dream through the Strictly experience. Following in the footsteps of Tayce, who participated in last year’s Christmas special with Kai Widdrington, La Voix becomes the second drag queen to compete in a full series. With Tayce’s previous victory, the expectations are high for La Voix.
Despite being 45 years old, La Voix appears unfazed by the expectations and is pleased to be representing the drag community on the show.
“I believe there has been a longing for this for many years,” she mentioned to Metro. “It’s a vibrant and glamorous show, the perfect fit.”
La Voix emphasized that featuring a drag icon on Strictly is a natural fit and not a novel concept, citing the longstanding presence of icons like Dame Edna and Lily Savage in entertainment history.
Additionally, La Voix playfully acknowledged the traditional elements of Strictly, such as sequins and spray tans, which are everyday essentials in her glamorous world. She teased that she might be the one to opt for a more casual look on the live show.
Fans need not worry about La Voix’s glamour quotient, as she assured them that her outfit for the first live show will meet their expectations. “I desire the complete Strictly experience. They are taking it to the next level. The glamour is fantastic. I feel like I’m living my dream. It’s fantastic. I just want to enjoy the dressing-up part.”
