Two schools had to implement lockdown procedures today due to reports of an individual carrying an axe.

A significant police presence, including armed officers, was observed heading towards Holyhead, a port town in Anglesey. Ysgol Gymraeg Morswyn and Ysgol Kingsland were both placed in lockdown, with parents receiving notifications via text messages. North Wales Police has confirmed that the lockdowns have now been lifted.

North Wales Police stated, “There have been reports, though unconfirmed, of an individual sighted with an axe in the Kingsland area of Holyhead. Police patrols have been conducted in the area, and investigations are ongoing to verify the validity of the reports.”

In a subsequent update, authorities mentioned that a woman in her twenties has been apprehended. The police reported, “A local woman has been arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon, following earlier reports of an axe-carrying individual in Holyhead.

“We appreciate the assistance provided by those who shared information with us. Recognizing the concerns raised, we want to assure the community that police officers are actively patrolling the area.

“As the investigation unfolds, we urge the public to avoid speculating on the incident.”

District Inspector Wayne Francis noted, “There is a noticeable police presence in Holyhead this afternoon to provide reassurance. No direct threats to the public have been reported to us. Investigations are ongoing, and anyone with additional information can reach out to us via our website or by calling 101, quoting reference C144229.”

Anglesey County Council confirmed that Ysgol Gymraeg Morswyn and Ysgol Kingsland were put on a precautionary lockdown due to a specific concern in the vicinity.

The council further stated, “The lockdown was brief, and both schools resumed normal operations following confirmation from North Wales Police that it was safe to do so.

“During this period, both schools strictly followed established lockdown protocols. Staff acted promptly and appropriately, with the safety and well-being of students and staff as the top priority.”

“Anglesey County Council expresses gratitude to students, parents, staff, and the broader school community for their cooperation and understanding. We also extend our thanks to North Wales Police for their swift assistance and reassurance.”
