A 13-year-old from Cape Breton, Jake Campbell, alongside his family, managed to raise $21,000 for Make-A-Wish Canada through a hotdog stand and generous donations. Last weekend, they sold hotdogs made with supplies provided by No Frills and Wonder Bread, surpassing last year’s fundraising total of $3,000. Setting up their stand at the Russell Hawkins parking lot in Sydney, N.S., the Campbells not only earned money from hotdog sales but also received additional cash donations from supportive community members.
Hollie Quick, a senior development officer at Make-A-Wish Canada in Nova Scotia, expressed gratitude towards the community for rallying behind the cause. Last year, Jake Campbell was recognized with an award in memory of a wish child. Inspired by this experience, Campbell aimed to double the fundraising amount this year, contributing significantly to fulfilling the wishes of 81 children on the foundation’s list in Nova Scotia.
Make-A-Wish has previously granted wishes ranging from creating accessible spaces for children to enjoy outdoor activities at home to organizing family trips. Campbell emphasized the importance of supporting the foundation, noting that it impacts not just the children but their entire families. Looking ahead, he expressed enthusiasm for future fundraising endeavors, acknowledging the community’s crucial role in making a difference.
In the light of this heartwarming initiative, Make-A-Wish Canada in Nova Scotia is set to make dreams come true for numerous children, thanks to the generous contributions of Jake Campbell and his family.
