Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson, the Canadian beach volleyball pair, clinched the bronze medal at the Montreal Elite16 tournament held on home turf.
The silver medallists from the 2024 Olympics staged a comeback against Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann, winning with scores of 20-22, 21-12, and 18-16 to secure a podium finish.
Wilkerson was the standout performer with 32 attack points, 5 block points, and a serve point, while Humana-Paredes contributed 9 attack points.
Due to adverse weather conditions, the match was briefly halted before resuming.
Earlier in the day, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson suffered a defeat in the semifinals, losing 21-19, 20-22, 15-7 to Brazil’s Thamela Galil and Victoria Tosta.
This loss dashed their hopes of achieving a three-peat, but they were set to face Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann for the bronze medal later in the day.
Having previously claimed victory in Montreal in 2023 and 2025, along with an Olympic silver in Paris, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson have a strong track record in recent years.
Canadian men secure bronze
Sam Schachter and Jonathan Pickett of Canada fought back to secure an upset win in the men’s bronze-medal match on Sunday.
The duo from Ontario rallied after dropping the first set 16-21 to defeat Norway’s Hendrik Mol and Mathias Berntsen with scores of 28-26 and 15-12, earning their first podium finish together in front of the home crowd.
Schachter and Pickett caused a major upset by defeating the top-ranked pair of Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson to reach the men’s semifinals at the FIVB Beach Pro Tour event the day before.
However, the 39th-ranked Canadians fell short in the semifinals on Sunday morning, succumbing to a 2-1 defeat (21-12, 16-21, 16-14) against Brazil’s Renato Andrew Lima de Carvalho and André Loyola Stein.
