A powerful tornado wreaked havoc on the village of Pomas in southern France, causing numerous injuries and extensive damage to over 300 homes. Fortunately, no individuals have been reported missing as a result of the disaster.
The Aude prefecture reported that as of Tuesday morning, 1,400 households were still without power. The tornado was captured swirling above the village of Verzeille, located a few kilometers east of Pomas, late Monday, as shown in a verified social media video. Many homes in its path suffered shattered windows.
In Preixan, situated a few kilometers north of Pomas, the tornado was also documented moving through the area in another verified social media video.
In the aftermath, residents are assessing the damage and beginning the cleanup process. Images depict a man surveying the wreckage of a damaged house in Pomas and debris scattered inside the Saint Julien et Sainte Basilisse church after its roof collapsed due to the tornado. Fallen trees in a cemetery and individuals covering a damaged building’s roof with a tarp in Pomas are also captured in photographs.
Additionally, pedestrians are seen navigating past a fallen tree near the damaged residences in Pomas. The community is faced with significant restoration efforts following the destructive tornado event.
