Three security personnel at a nightclub in downtown Winnipeg are facing assault charges following an incident that left a Winnipeg Sea Bears player with serious injuries earlier this month, according to police reports.
Teddy Allen was hospitalized after being attacked at a downtown nightclub during the early hours of August 3, as confirmed by the Canadian Elite Basketball League team. The individuals, aged 35, 37, and 58, who were employed at the establishment, were apprehended on Wednesday and charged with assault causing bodily harm. They have been released on undertakings, the police announced in a press release on Thursday. Although the specific nightclub was not disclosed by authorities, it was located on Main Street, between Portage and William avenues.
Allen has undergone medical examinations, received a medical assessment, and is currently recuperating at home, as stated in a written communication released by the team on Thursday.
In response to the assault, Allen expressed, “The assault ‘should never have happened nor should it happen to anyone for any reason.'” He further added, “The thing about my life is that when I’ve been knocked down, I get back up, which is exactly what I’m going to do now.”
