After an action-packed few days at the Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games, the initial phase of the competition is coming to a close. The intensity was particularly high at the Corner Brook Civic Centre, where ball hockey players from various parts of the province vied for medals on Tuesday.
In the gold medal match, Team Mount Pearl South emerged victorious over Team Avalon with a narrow 4-3 win. Raine Foss, a 13-year-old player from Paradise, secured the winning goal and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity. Reflecting on his pivotal moment, Raine shared, “I made a strategic move, seized the opportunity, and scored. Representing MPS is a unique and unforgettable experience.”
Raine’s teammate, Reid Swain, shared his excitement at leaving Corner Brook as a gold medalist. He mentioned, “We dedicated ourselves to this goal over the past few months, and although we had doubts, we managed to succeed. It’s an incredible feeling.”
Despite not achieving the desired medal color, Team Avalon’s Ryan Walsh cherished the camaraderie and memorable experiences gained during the event. Reflecting on his time in Corner Brook, he remarked, “Staying together with my teammates and engaging in various activities was truly enjoyable.”
Team Central clinched the bronze medal, a source of pride for 14-year-old Jack Stone from Grand Falls-Windsor. Jack expressed his elation, stating, “Winning a medal is a fantastic feeling. You enter a tournament with uncertainties, but coming out with a medal is truly rewarding.”
