The Ottawa Rapid have named Carmelina Moscato, a former Canadian national team defender, as their new head coach for the upcoming season. This announcement comes after the current head coach, Katrine Pedersen, revealed her departure from the Northern Super League leaders at the end of the season in a statement last month.
Moscato, a distinguished member of the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame, boasts an impressive career, having participated in three Women’s World Cups and earning a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics. She brings coaching experience from her time in Denmark, Mexico, and most recently, Saudi Arabia.
The Rapid have confirmed that Moscato will be joining the team on a two-season contract and will commence work immediately in preparation for the upcoming season, with a focus on player recruitment.
Team CEO Thomas Gilbert expressed his confidence in Moscato, citing her strong leadership skills, coaching expertise, and in-depth knowledge of Canadian soccer. Moscato herself emphasized her eagerness to continue the progress made by the Rapid and create an environment conducive to player development and high-level competition.
Currently leading the NSL standings with 10 victories in 15 matches, Ottawa Rapid suffered their last defeat in late May. Their next match is scheduled in Calgary at 4 p.m. on Saturday, which will be broadcast live on CBC Gem.
