On Friday in Pickering, Ontario, a collision occurred between a police cruiser and a civilian vehicle, prompting an investigation by the province’s police oversight body. The incident took place at the intersection of Kingston Road and Brock Road around 7:30 p.m. as a Durham Regional Police Service officer was en route to an emergency call.
According to Monica Hudon, a spokesperson for the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), the collision resulted in injuries to the occupants of the civilian vehicle, with a child sustaining a serious injury. The injured individuals were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Durham police confirmed that their officers were responding to a call when the collision occurred. Const. Nick Gluckstein mentioned that the SIU was notified and began its investigation as per its mandate.
Following the incident, Durham police announced road closures on Kingston Road at Brock Road in both directions, as well as southbound traffic restrictions on Brock Road from Finch Avenue for the collision probe. The roadways were reopened by 2 a.m. the following day, as per an update provided by Durham police.
The SIU continues to look into the circumstances surrounding the crash in Pickering, Ontario.
