A woman expressed no regrets after acquiring sperm from a stranger at no cost through Facebook, though she strongly advises against it. Laura Coldman, 33, found herself single in August 2018 and desired a sibling for her then-six-year-old child. Turning to Facebook in June 2020, she connected with a sperm donor who was recommended by a private group of mothers with children from sperm donations.
After confirming the donor’s credibility, Laura underwent self-insemination at the donor’s home in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. Following three additional donations over seven months, she discovered her pregnancy in July 2021. Her son, Calum Anthony Ryan, was born on April 21, 2022, at Royal Infirmary Hospital, Leicester, weighing 8lbs 8oz.
